Lost Files After CHKDSK?
How to Access the Hidden FOUND.000 Folder

If your files vanished after a system crash, power failure, or a "Scanning and repairing drive" notification, Windows likely moved them into a hidden directory called FOUND.000. These are recovered data fragments renamed as .chk files. Because this is a protected system folder, it remains invisible in File Explorer by default. Follow these steps to reveal your missing data and bring it back to life.

Step 01

Run CMD as Administrator

Search for "Command Prompt" in your Start menu, right-click it, and select "Run as Administrator" to ensure you have the necessary permissions.

Step 02

Reveal the FOUND folders

Navigate to your drive letter (e.g., D:) and execute the attribute command to strip the hidden and system flags:

attrib -h -r -s /s /d FOUND.*

Step 03

Drag and Restore

Once the folders are visible in File Explorer, open them and drag the .chk files into the restoration engine at the top of this page.
